SHOW NOTES:

00:00:59 – I rented a bike and I was looking for a cashew nut farm so I can learn about cashew nuts.y…

I’m an engineer, Polytechnic engineer originally i’ve been working in emerging markets most of my adult life. I actually came to Cambodia a little bit by chance.

I was looking for information about cashew nut. So I googled cashew nut and I found information about India, Vietnam and Cambodia. India and Vietnam are countries that was familiar with and I figured, OK, let’s go and see what’s happening in Cambodia. So I landed there, in steam rip.

I rented a bike and I was looking for a cashew nut farm so I can learn about cashew nuts. And I was mostly surprised by the welcome.

I always say Cambodian are amongst the nicest people there is out there. So that’s the first thing that struck me was how nice people were.

00:09:48 – A lot of my companion friends, they tell me, yeah, maybe one day you’ll become Cambodian…

. They had two great empires in the past, the Funan empire and then the company empire. You can actually feel it in the people.

It’s very embedded in who they are. There’s a big part of national pride, which is something I really like I said, it’s a joke, but in reality it’s true.

A lot of my companion friends, they tell me, yeah, maybe one day you’ll become Cambodian, but you’ll never be mine. And that’s something I really like.

He chose identity, and I think identity is one of the key ingredients for success. So I think that’s something that is very strong.

00:28:23 – They go to study agriculture for year working in fields and having hands on hands on study there.

. Every year there’s a program sending about 300 Cambodians to Israel for 11 months.

It’s an agricultural program. They go to study agriculture for year working in fields and having hands on hands on study there. And so every year between 300 to 400 Cambodians in Israel.

Other than this there’s not a big Cambodian community but I do know some Cambodian that just did the that are that are now Olha Dash that are acclimating to the lifestyle. Virtual Aviv.

00:34:47 – Thailand has been like this about 25 years ago, so you can really see both.

It’s a funny thing in this country is in the same time developing country but in the same time very modern.

It’s a very, I think probably Bangkok. Thailand has been like this about 25 years ago, so you can really see both. So you do Cambodia now very modern, but in the same time they do have this ancestral culture of honor.

So what the one thing that Cambodian do not like is to lose face. One other things connected to this is that they don’t like to say no because they’re not confrontational so they would rather say yes then no.

But you need to learn in between the lines if the yes is a no or yes

00:40:16 – So I think when you’re a foreign it doesn’t really matter how you call them

You know, in Europe or Israel we start with your first name and then your family name.

In Asia is the other way around. They start to present themselves first with the family name, which can create confusion.

So I think when you’re a foreign it doesn’t really matter how you call them as long as it’s respectful because we you mix the names and the surnames anyway, right?

00:48:46 – We’re very tough, right? We are.

You need to you know, we are in Israel. We’re very tough, right? We are.

We can you know when you go to Israel as a foreign and you meet people, one of the first questions that ask you how much money you make. Which in Europe?

Is A is a no right. You don’t ask people that question.

It’s a private, private information Israel. It’s normal. And it’s not coming from a from a jealousy point of view, it’s not to see if they make more than you.
